About The Work

For CHART in Tivoli 2023, Cecilia Fiona will present two new sculptural works that extend the artist’s interest in creating imaginary worlds, populated by hybrid creatures that resemble humans and animals, as well as both fauna and flora. Combining myths and folklore from many different places and time periods, Fiona creates completely unique, dreamlike environments, using fantasy as a vehicle to explore existential themes of love and loss, life and death.

The sculptures that Fiona has created for Tivoli are an extension of her paintings and continue her fascination with nature's systems, transformations, life cycles and the fundamental basic right to freedom of existence that is surely shared by all species. Fiona views these sculptures as portals that allow new species to come into existence and new life to enter the world.
