About The Work
For CHART in Tivoli 2023, the artist and passionate ceramic collector Magnus Andersen has created a new ceramic sculpture. Here we find a large seagull resting on the water after a hard day’s work.
Andersen’s sculpture is imagined partly as a tribute to the famous Danish artist Anne Marie Carl-Nielsen and partly as a personal replacement for the rare porcelain figure ‘Reclining Silver Seagull’ which Carl-Nielsen exhibited at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1900. Made in collaboration between Anne Marie Carl-Nielsen and Bing and Grøndahl (now Royal Copenhagen), Andersen has been searching for an edition of this ceramic for his own collection for many years, without any success.

About The Artist
Magnus Andersen’s (b. 1987, Elsinore; DK) practice derives from an interest in the relationship between image and representation, and how living images and painting function in a world strongly influenced by visual impressions. Andersen develops archetypal figures and translates them into paintings with an almost eerie sensibility. Romantic notions of country life, youth and the sweet life are often present in his work. His compositions often feature misplaced symbols, which emphasise the satirical, and surreal moods of his paintings.
Magnus Andersen is represented by palace enterprise.
