About The Work
For CHART in Tivoli 2023, Harrison Pearce will present a new work entitled ‘Khora (closed),’ that engages with broad ideas relating to the philosophy of the human mind. After discovering an unusual mutation in his own brain, Pearce began to channel his artistic practice towards imagining a future where humans and technologies merge, examining the boundaries between mind and body.
‘Khora (closed)’ has been produced as part of a series that started with a 3D scan of the artist's own brain. Using various computer programs, Pearce has digitally 'reconstructed' his brain, adapted it using artificial intelligence and optimised the digital file for physical fabrication. The sculpture that has been produced also functions as a mould – one that can be used to make digital copies of the artist’s brain.

About The Artist
Harrison Pearce (b. 1986, London; UK) is a London-based artist who holds and MFA from City & Guilds of London Art School and an MA in Philosophy from Birkbeck, University of London. Having previously held an unwavering belief in empirical knowledge, Pearce’s worldview was radically altered after a series of brain scans revealed an anomaly in the morphology of his brain. Asymptomatic, he had no way to assimilate the idea that his body was playing host to a potentially fatal malfunction. What emerged from this episode was a new interest to explore the mechanics of empirical logic via artistic practice.
Harrison Pearce is represented by Carl Kostyál.
