Icelandic artist Þórdís (Thordis) Erla Zoëga (b. 1988) primarily works with installations and works of art that unfold spatially. She is fundamentally preoccupied with the investigation of how people interact and connect with each other. In her career she has created different settings like this one for people to enter and challenge their perception and what they think they know.
Þórdís Erla Zoëga (b. 1988) is a visual artist based in Iceland. Þórdís received her BFA from the Audio Visual Department of The Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam in 2012 and has since exhibited extensively both within Iceland and abroad. Recent exhibitions include: Embrace at Norrtälje Konsthall (2021; SE) and Akureyri Art Museum (2022; IS), Routine at Listasafn Árnesinga (2022; IS) and Hyper Cyber at Þula (2020; IS).
Zoëga has produced work for Reykjavík Arts Festival, Gerðarsafn, The Icelandic Dance Company and exhibited in the Reykjavík Art Museum as well as receiving the Bæjarlistamaður Prize from Seltjarnarnes in 2022.
Þórdís Erla Zoëga works with intimacy and connection in various forms and across different mediums.
Using dichroic film and holographic material she has studied the digital aesthetics of our everyday life, dissected and displayed so as to reveal subtle interactions and the diverse ways in which we connect to each other in our contemporary world.
