CHART Design Fair presents ambitious contemporary collectible design from across the Nordic region, bringing together the best Nordic design galleries and emerging design studios. Focusing on unique contemporary works, limited edition pieces, and collectibles, CHART Design Fair unites established designers and emerging talents whose practices and originality contribute to the development of the Nordic design scene. In 2019, CHART Design Fair will focus exclusively on contemporary practices in two parts: a presentation of prominent galleries and a display of emerging studios and collectives from across the region.

CHART Design Fair provides a unique look at the Nordic scene for collectible design, highlighting both internationally esteemed practitioners as well as local talents, by presenting leading design galleries, designers, artists, and craft makers, whose designs and ideas push the boundaries and definitions of collectible design. Exhibiting in unison throughout the historic rooms at Den Frie Centre of Contemporary Art, CHART Design Fair gathers a cross section of the contemporary design scene, creating a platform to showcase and celebrate the most original collectible Nordic design.

In 2019 CHART invites a select group of emerging studios and design collectives from the Nordic countries to present new unique works, many of which will be shown for the first time. The invited studios explore the intersection between art and design and exhibit the most compelling contemporary practitioners currently working across the region.

DESIGN TALKS

A series of talks, exploring collectible design will bring together professionals and practitioners in conversations that address the role of Nordic material and craft heritage today. Set in a social space between the Design Fair and the Studio presentations, talks will discuss the performativity of design, past and future materials and methods, nurturing the collecting of design. The design talks programme is co-developed and moderated by Johanna Agerman Ross, Founder and Director of the design journal Disegno and Curator of Twentieth Century and Contemporary Furniture and Product Design at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.

DEN FRIE

CHART Design is located at Den Frie Centre of Contemporary Art in Copenhagen. Inhabiting this historical venue, it unfolds as an exemplary display of Nordic contemporary design with a strong focus on collectible pieces. Den Frie was drawn by architect, artist, and ceramicist J.F Willumsen, who established the venue with an ethos that regarded fine arts and design as equals, treating the disciplines as companions. Leaning on this philosophy, CHART Design aims to support this tradition of art and design as partners in aesthetic value.
