Galleri Arnstedt (SE)

The gallery is located in Östra Karup, a village at the Bjäre peninsula in southern part of Sweden. Established in 1998, a 400-year-old mill building was converted and extended into a gallery. The gallery is open from April to November, and its program has always been a mix of well-established Nordic artists and young emerging artists often from Malmö Art Academy. Around the gallery winds a sculpture garden that by itself is worth a visit.

Curated for
CHART

For CHART 2024, Galleri Arnstedt will present a group presentation featuring paintings by Linn Fernström and Kristina Eriksson and sculptures by Gabriel Karlsson.

Linn Fernström (SE)

Linn Fernström works subtly with enigmatic poetry. Her works are magically realistic, existing somewhere between dream and reality – here the definitions of time and place become blurred. Lush alternating meadows and flowers spread out to create a dreamlike landscape in Fernström’s new paintings. With quick brushstrokes, the paint dissolves and runs down the canvas. Creating a story, realistic depictions of human and animal forms are often found inserted into the seemingly idyllic scenes.

Linn Fernström (b. 1974, Örebro; SE) lives and works in Stockholm, Sweden. Fernström graduated from the Royal Academy of Arts in Stockholm. Fernström’s work is included in collections such as the Moderna Museet (Stockholm; SE), Malmö Art Museum (Malmö; SE), Ståhl Collection (Norrköping; SE), Linköping Art Museum (Linköping; SE); and Bonniers (Stockholm; SE), as well as in several private collections. The artist’s exhibition history includes recent exhibitions at Liljevalchs (Stockholm; SE).

Gabriel Karlsson (SE)

Working primarily in the realms of sculpture and installation, Gabriel Karlsson investigates the dialogues that can occur between different objects, and the ways in which objects can begin to communicate individually, seperate to the context in which they occur. By reusing the same object in different constellations, Gabriel Karlsson's practice creates a language of materials and objects that is waiting to be read. Many of his sculptures arise from an attempt to depict am imagined object rather than the real one. In that way, Gabriel Karlsson's sculptures become a reflection of how something in front of us is experienced rather than how it appears.

Gabriel Karlsson (b. 1988; SE) lives and works in Malmö, Sweden. In 2019, he received a MFA from Malmö Art Academy where he is currently working as a teacher. Selected exhibitions include Malmö Konsthall (Malmö; SE); Ravinen Art Gallery (Båstad; SE) and Skissernas Museum (Lund; SE). Karlsson has received the Fredrik Roos Art Grant.

Kristina Eriksson (SE)

With a silent palette and a harsh approach, Kristina Eriksson’s works are hard to categorize. As quiet thoughts, or contemplations, her paintings inhabit a strong sense of intimacy, and their reduced elements of forms speak of overpainting and deliberations. Her sparse production of works reflects the artist’s strict approach; not many paintings are approved. Her paintings are strongly expressive in their withdrawal from the viewer’s eyes, they are hard to catch but, nevertheless, make a mark. There is a poetry to be found in this almost sacred yet austere world. Kristina Eriksson offers the viewer an escape into something else; a pause and the insight that material things are just material, they won’t last. Her paintings prove that peace is to be found in that conviction.

Kristina Eriksson (b. 1948, Stockholm; SE) lives and works in Höganäs, Sweden. She holds a MFA from the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm. Eriksson’s works are featured in the permanent collection of Moderna Museet (Stockholm; SE), Malmö Konstmuseum (Malmö, SE); Stockholm Regional Council (Stockholm; SE) and Dunkers Kulturhus (Helsingborg; SE).
