About The Work

Tellus Luna is a sculpture in the shape of a lamppost. The round shade is partly concave and changes with the motion of the viewer. From a certain angle the siluett of a moon occurs - that during the dark hours colors the surrounding with its shine. David Nilsons series of moons carried by a lamppost have been ongoing since he graduated from Malmö Art Academy 2013. The early monochrome colors have since then developed with his intuitive and vibrant painted tones. But the almost Magrittian scene that occurs in front of our eyes, it still there.

The work is represented in both public and private collections in Sweden and Europe. It will also be included in the exhibition The Romantic Eye at Nationalmuseum, Stockholm SE this upcoming fall.

About The Artist

David Nilsons (b. 1982, SE) works sets of from a realistic image-world that seems to arise from two different directions; elements of time and the everyday object. In company with these sculptures, as with his moons, icicles or tail lights, we find ourselves in dreamlike and even impossible situations. What may look like a readymade, is actually a version of an already existing object. Or perhaps more like a sensation, captivated by a trivial item. The varied ways he works with resin allow him to model with the opaque and the transparent. He embraces the faux qualities in plastic to create both an object and a picture. Reality and fiction at the same time. Or with his own words - As a painting in the air.

David Nilson lives and works in Malmö, where he received a MFA at Malmö Art Academy 2013. Born (1982) in Yngsjö in the south-east of Sweden. A countryside blended with sea, sand and endless agricultural fields, which still has very much influence on him. Selected exhibitions include Bohusläns Museum SE, Bienvenue Art Fair Paris FR, Galerie Ramakers NL, Arnstedt Gallery SE and Malmö Konsthall SE.

David Nilson is represented by Galleri Arnstedt.
