Elina Merenmies (FI)

Elina Merenmies’s oeuvre is a unique and mystical universe. A rich and layered array of meanings, emotions, interior visions and recurring motifs come together in her works, executed with tempera, oil and ink. Merenmies’s works can be approached as gates to silence and the ultimate essence of being human. The themes she addresses in her works are profound and eternal. The impressive and gently ferocious views that Merenmies presents, in her precise and inimitable hand, investigate the human condition and existence more broadly.

Elina Merenmies (b. 1967, Espoo; FI) lives and works in Helsinki, Finland. Merenmies’ works are represented in major public and private collections in Finland and in several Nordic art museums, including: ARKEN Museum of Contemporary Art (Ishøj; DK), Uppsala Art Museum (Uppsala; SE), as well as in private collections in Europe and the United States. Her work has been the subject of numerous institutional exhibitions including: Amos Rex Art Museum (Helsinki; FI), Helsinki Art Museum (2022), Nordic Watercolour Museum (Skärham; SE), Norrköping Art Museum (Helsinki; FI) and Serlachius Museum (Mänttä; FI).
