About The Works

Vogel, 2016

Young Boy Walking / Gående dreng, 2019

At Tivoli, Tal R presents two bronze works, Boy Walking and Vogel, both of which engage directly with the visual language and formal concerns of 19th-century sculpture. While deeply informed by this classical tradition, Tal R reconfigures it through the lens of the quotidian, allowing the domestic and familiar to infiltrate and reshape the sculptural form.

He refers to this as “the unremarkable everyday” – a dancer, a boy, a cyclist. These archetypal figures are modelled in clay, cast in plaster, and finally realised in bronze through traditional sculptural processes. The resulting works are at once fantastical and grounded, drawing on both contemporary subject matter and art historical precedent.

The sculptures occupy a space between monumentality and vulnerability. Boy Walking depicts a dynamic figure in motion, characterised by voluminous trouser forms that subtly reference contemporary streetwear. The figure is headless yet upright – assertively striding into the world.

Vogel (Bird) draws on a recurring motif in Tal R’s drawings. Here, multiple bird forms are densely clustered; their torsos merge into a single corporeal volume, from which beaks and wings extend in various directions. The composition becomes a shared body — a composite silhouette that gestures outward in multiple trajectories simultaneously...
