Arnstedt Östra Karup (SE)

The gallery is located in Östra Karup, a village at the Bjäre peninsula in southern part of Sweden. Established in 1998, a 400-year-old mill building was converted and extended into a gallery. The gallery is open from April to November, and its program has always been a mix of well-established Nordic artists and young emerging artists often from Malmö Art Academy. Around the gallery winds a sculpture garden that by itself is worth a visit.

Curated for
CHART

For CHART 2026, Arnstedt Östra Karup presents new works by Iranian artist Samaneh Reyhani (1990) and Swedish artist Elisabeth Östin (1989). Both explore how the human body and organic forms can be transformed into dreamlike, unfamiliar shapes, with Reyhani working through textured, scarred sculptures and Östin through fluid, uncanny paintings. Drawing on literary references, their practices converge in a quiet yet charged visual language. At CHART, Östin will present a new series of larger-scale paintings, and Reyhani will show a group of marble sculptures.

Elisabeth Östin (SE)

Elisabeth Östin describes her paintings as hybrids, or ongoing transformations. She approaches painting as a language of secrets and obscurities, beyond the reach of words. Parallel to her painterly practice, she draws on literature, film, history, and mythology, which subtly seeps through her work. In her recent series, she turns to cave myths, where altered sound and light give rise to illusion and myth-making.

Elisabeth Östin (b. 1989, Viken, Sweden) lives in Arrie, with an MFA from Malmö Art Academy. She has exhibited at Arnstedt, Ravinen Båstad, Pumphuset Konsthall. Included in collections of Moderna Museet, Malmö Art Museum, and the Royal College of Music in Stockholm.

Samaneh Reyhani (IR)

Samaneh Reyhani explores the tension between the bodily and the emotional, the tangible and the immaterial. Her pieces immediately draw the eye with their bold colors and dynamic shapes, but a deeper look uncovers subtle marks that evoke scars or wounds. Inspired by Eastern literature and philosophy, Reyhani transforms materials such as wood and stone beyond their physical properties, shaping forms infused with a quiet, visual poetry.

Samaneh Reyhani (b. 1990 Tehran, Iran) lives in Kävlinge, with an MFA from Malmö Art Academy and a BFA from the University of Art, Tehran, Iran. Reyhani has exhibited at Malmö Art Museum, Kulturhuset, Stockholm, Uppsala Art Museum and Ystad Art Museum. Included in collections of Malmö Art Museum, Uppsala Art Museum, Helsingborg Museum, and Ståhl Collection, Norrköping.
