    11.00 — 19.00

    Special Project: Aaron Heino

    Lower foyer at Charlottenborg

For CHART 2023, we are delighted to spotlight several presentations by artists that will be exhibited in the foyer and stairway leading up to the fair at Kunsthal Charlottenborg.

Aaron Heino's sculptures have always conveyed traditional values of beauty, albeit using an aesthetic that feels appropriate to the medium of contemporary sculpture. The works in Heino’s ‘citrus’ series are sculptural illusions in which stone, marble or cast aluminium appear like flesh, moulded by the artist as a metaphor for the mind.

Aaron Heino's work 'If There's No Other Way' (2022) will be presented as part of the Special Projects programme for CHART 2023 by Galleria Heino.

  • 25 Aug

    11.00 — 19.00

    Special Project: Cristina de Miguel

    Stairway at Charlottenborg

For CHART 2023, we are delighted to spotlight several presentations by artists that will be exhibited in the foyer and stairway leading up to the fair at Kunsthal Charlottenborg.

The female protagonists in Cristina de Miguel’s energetic and expressive works surf, dance, do yoga and perform exorcisms – even the ones lounging appear to be in action. Empowered radiant women, feeling freedom in their bodies. In her new suite of large-scale drawings, you experience freedom. The euphoria of being present in the moment. Freedom in form and being.

Three large new works on paper by Cristina de Miguel will be presented as part of the Special Projects programme for CHART 2023 by V1 Gallery.

  • 25 Aug

    11.00 — 19.00

Cinema: Pink Twins - ‘The Transient’

    Cinema

For CHART 2023, Galleria Heino will present ‘The Transient’ (2022) by Pink Twins. The film depicts the seemingly uncontrollable yet algorithmically consistent growth rhythms of various garden plants.

The work is fully animated and generated using artificial intelligence. Rooted in ideas of self-transformation, ‘The Transient’ explores an interesting shared dynamic between humans and the plant kingdom.

The artwork is included in the CHART Cinema Programme; a series of videos presented in a loop at the cinema in Kunsthal Charlottenborg throughout the fair.

  • 25 Aug

    11.00 — 19.00

    Special Project: Frances Goodman

    Stairway at Charlottenborg

For CHART 2023, we are delighted to spotlight several presentations by artists that will be exhibited in the foyer and stairway leading up to the fair at Kunsthal Charlottenborg.

Frances Goodman’s ‘Spit/Swallow’ (2013/2016) is a self-portrait of the artist and an iconic example of work investigating the thin line that exists between desire and disgust. Envisioned as a metaphoric play on female stereotypes, ‘Spit/Swallow’ (2013/2016) considers: women who swallow their words, women who accept what is given to and expected of them, women who spit out their thoughts and feelings, women who reject societal expectations and norms, as well as the obvious sexual innuendo that the title references.

Frances Goodman's work ‘Spit/Swallow’ will be presented as part of the Special Projects programme for CHART 2023 by SPECTA.

  • 25 Aug

    11.00 — 19.00

    Special Project: Eeva Karhu

    Stairway at Charlottenborg

For CHART 2023, we are delighted to spotlight several presentations by artists that will be exhibited in the foyer and stairway leading up to the fair at Kunsthal Charlottenborg.

Eeva Karhu uses the process of layering photographic images as a method for collecting the passage of time. In her ‘Path (Moments)’ series, Karhu photographs the route she walks to get home daily, over a period of three months. Layering all of these images together to capture a whole season in a single image, her photographs become an abstraction that alters reality by blurring the borders between one moment and the next.

Selected examples from Eeva Karhu's ‘Path (Moments)’ series will be presented as part of the Special Projects programme for CHART 2023 by Persons Projects.

  • 25 Aug

    11.00 — 19.00

    Cinema: Anna Maggý - ‘Koss’

    Cinema

For CHART 2023, Þula will present the premiere of ‘Koss’ (2023) by Anna Maggý, the artist’s latest video work.

‘Koss’ is a highly personal work that interrogates what it means to be a young queer female today, as well as concepts of love, lust and gay utopia. Through explorations of her own life and identity, Maggý's practice focuses on the resilience of women and the playful yet deeply-rooted bonds that kisses can create.

This artwork is included in the CHART Cinema Programme; a series of videos presented in a loop at the cinema in Kunsthal Charlottenborg throughout the fair.

  • 25 Aug

    11.00 — 19.00

Cinema: Salla Tykkä - ‘Airs Above the Ground’

    Cinema

For CHART 2023, Galerie Anhava will present ‘Airs Above the Ground’ (2010) by Salla Tykkä, an artist, filmmaker and photographer whose work addresses issues of gaze, power, gender, control and memory.

The film centres around the Lipizzan horse – considered to be the oldest extant breed in Europe, dating back to the 16th century. Bred to perform the purest form of classic riding, the High School dressage, Lipizzaner stallions are born dark and gradually grow lighter until they are completely white. In ‘Airs Above the Ground,’ images of these horses are used to provide a glimpse of our history, present, and future.

The artwork is included in the CHART Cinema Programme; a series of videos presented in a loop at the cinema in Kunsthal Charlottenborg throughout the fair.

  • 25 Aug

    11.00 — 19.00

    Special Project: Guðmundur Thoroddsen

    Stairway at Charlottenborg

For CHART 2023, we are delighted to spotlight several presentations by artists that will be exhibited in the foyer and stairway leading up to the fair at Kunsthal Charlottenborg.

Guðmundur Thoroddsen works primarily between the media of painting and sculpture. The artist often questions our histories, social structures, and ideas of masculinity. In his abstract works, Thoroddsen explores colour, shapes, texture, and atmosphere. The artist often plays with figurative gestures within his works, which is somewhat of an open invitation for the audience to experience the painting in their own personal ways.

A new painting by Guðmundur Thoroddsen will be presented as part of the Special Projects programme for CHART 2023 by Þula.

  • 25 Aug

    11.00 — 19.00

Special Project: Poul Gernes - LIGHT FLOWER

    Upper foyer at Charlottenborg

For CHART 2023, Gernes-Fonden has joined forces with Tableau to launch LIGHT FLOWER – a light sculpture first conceptualised by artist Poul Gernes during his time serving as a professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts between 1987 and 1991. Each LIGHT FLOWER is handcrafted in Copenhagen making each lamp somewhat unique.

During CHART, the lamps will be presented at the LIGHT FLOWER BAR in the upper foyer at Kunsthal Charlottenborg for all visitors to enjoy.

Gernes-Fonden is a non-profit charitable foundation supporting artists contributing to contemporary society, and expanding knowledge around the life and work of Poul Gernes. Half of the revenue will go to charitable purposes to help artists according to the regulations stated in the foundation.

Deep Reading Room - Plethora x Københavns Møbelsnedkeri x CHART

    Book Fair

The Deep Reading Room at CHART 2023, is imagined as a space for quietness and contemplation. Visitors can immerse themselves in the world of art books. Created by Plethora in collaboration with Københavns Møbelsnedkeri and CHART, here you will find a curated selection of different publications being presented by the publishers at this year’s Book Fair.

We are exposed to a lot of content and information every day and this is especially true when visiting an art fair or book fair. We hope this environment offers the chance to slow down, take a break for a minute and digest the material you have already experienced.

The publishers participating at CHART Book Fair produce carefully designed books that really benefit from close attention – from the images and text included, to the weight and feel of the pages. The Deep Reading Room provides the perfect opportunity to take all of this in and experience a book as a physical object, as well as a collection of ideas.

    Artist Talk: Ragnar Kjartansson

    Talks Venue

Ragnar Kjartansson is an artist who lives and works in Reykjavík, Iceland. An underlying sense of pathos and irony connect all of Kjartansson’s works, as the artist blurs the distinctions between mediums, approaching his painting practice as performance, likening his films to paintings, and his performances to sculpture. Throughout, Kjartansson conveys an interest in beauty and its banality, and he uses durational, repetitive performance as a form of exploration.

For CHART 2023, we are delighted to present a talk between Ragnar Kjartansson and Tine Colstrup, Curator at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Humlebæk, where Kjartansson’s work is currently the subject of a large-scale retrospective exhibition.

    Music: DJ – Christian d’Or x Kasper Bjørke (B2B)

    Courtyard

Over the course of the last 15 years or so, Christian d’Or has been a permanent, left-field fixture on the Copenhagen music scene. His personal take on the culture of music, coupled with his ability to match old records with the sounds of today, has led him to carve out a well-defined space for himself in the contemporary music industry.

There is a distinct thread that runs through Kasper Bjørke’s vast body of work.

Whether it’s an instrumental club track, a radio friendly affair, one of his forays into the more ambient side of things - or everything that falls in between - the DNA of Bjørke’s sound is unmistakably his own.

For CHART 2023, these two local heroes and longtime friends will join forces behind the DJ decks to blend their collections of finely curated italo, disco, world and old school house jams.

  • 26 Aug

    11.00 — 18.00

  • 26 Aug

    11.00 — 18.00

  • 26 Aug

    11.00 — 18.00

Each LIGHT FLOWER is handcrafted in Copenhagen making each lamp somewhat unique.

All of the works in this exhibition are priced below a fixed threshold of 20.000 DKK. We hope that by building transparency and presenting stand-out works at a more affordable price point, we can encourage more people to start their collecting journeys.

Here the word ‘thing’ is understood in its original meaning, namely as an object, a form of political gathering, and a topic. The book considers exhibitions that use democratic meetings as a curatorial approach, and asks, “if the exhibition space were a space for democratic gatherings, how would it look?”

    Music: Toby Ernest

    Courtyard

Indie soul singer Toby Ernest made a name for himself as lead singer of the cult trio The Late Great Fitzcarraldos as well as collaborating with artists such as Coco O, Laid Back and Kasper Bjørke. He grew up on a small island in Denmark listening to British soul music and after living in Cuba and Los Angeles and spending time in Jamaica and South America, his ears opened to Caribbean and Brazilian music, as well as the grooves of the West Coast.

For CHART 2023, Toby Ernest will perform an intimate set, taking the listener on a journey through lush forests to tropical beaches where the palm trees gently sway to the grooves of his timeless pop songs and hypnotic soul ballads.

Their latest album ‘Cotton Candy’ was released to critical acclaim after a five-year hiatus and has led to comparisons between them and bands like New Order and Pet Shop Boys.

For CHART 2023, Anton Falck and Joakim Wei will deliver an unforgettable DJ set featuring a range of First Hate’s musical predecessors as well as some of their current favourite tracks.

    11.00 — 17.00

  • 27 Aug

    11.00 — 17.00

  • 27 Aug

    11.00 — 17.00

  • 27 Aug

    11.00 — 17.00

  • 27 Aug

    11.00 — 17.00

  • 27 Aug

    11.00 — 17.00

  • 27 Aug

    11.00 — 17.00

  • 27 Aug

    11.00 — 17.00
