For the sixth consecutive year, CHART is excited to launch CHART Architecture 2019. With year’s theme being materiality, CHART invites young and newly established architects, as well as students from the Nordic art, design and architecture schools, to participate in an intensive 72-hour architecture competition. We encourage participants to contribute with their most innovative and artistic ideas as to how materials create space. An international jury will pick five finalists who will design individual pavilions that will be presented in the baroque courtyards of Charlottenborg during CHART, 30 August – 1 September 2019.
The brief will be published online on 11 April at 12:00, the deadline is 72-hours later on 14 April at 12:00. To kick-off the competition CHART invites everyone to join us at Apollo Bar on 8 April from 17:00 – 19:00. CHART’s Director Nanna Hjortenberg will begin the evening with an introduction to the competition. Following, Danish artist Lea Porsager, whose practices explores the intersection of spatial and artistic form will give a brief lecture on this year’s theme: materiality. Senior Curator at Rome’s MAXXI museum, Pippo Ciorra, will give a brief presentation and share thoughts on materiality in architecture, and finally, last year’s winner of CHART Architecture, Jan Sienkiewicz, will give a few words of advice.
CHART Architecture is realised in partnership with Foreningen Realdania, FOSS, Dreyer Foundation, and The City of Copenhagen. Knowledge and resource partners for the project include, BLOXHUB, Copenhagen Architecture Festival (CAFx), Arup and the Dansk Arkitektur Center (DAC).
