LOYAL (SE)

LOYAL was founded in Stockholm in 2005 as a contemporary gallery on the international art scene with the purpose of introducing emerging artists from New York and Los Angeles. With a program focusing on these dynamic scenes, LOYAL has always celebrated artists pushing the horizons of international art. The gallery has formed a substantial program of recognized artists, while following these artists' careers and long relationships into their mid-career, the gallery remains true to its original purpose of encouraging and supporting emerging talents it crosses path with and connects with. LOYAL is located in a townhouse in Stockholm’s Lärkstaden in the former Embassy of Brazil.

Michelle Blade (US)

Michelle Blade is documenting time, examining the stillness, strength, persistence of the natural world. Like Charles Burchfield painting through the seasons, and the waxing and waning of the blooming flowers and quality of light, she documents the seasons of her parenthood, as her daughters interact with places where generations of her family have also engaged. Solidifying these fleeting moments, Blade shows us states of being human in flowing flux, creating a form for memory by infusing color and texture in her acrylic and ink on cotton poplin canvases.

Michelle Blade (b. 1981, Los Angeles; US) holds a BA from Loyola Marymount and MFA from California College of the Arts. Solos include LOYAL (Stockholm), Wilding Cran Gallery (LA), with recent group shows at Spazio Amanita (LA), The Pit (LA), WOAW Gallery (Hong Kong), Make Room (LA), Asia Art Center (Taipei).

Ethan Cook (US)

Ethan Cook’s “paintings” are made up of swathes of woven color to create a new language of abstraction. While he considers himself a painter, Ethan Cook has predominantly used a loom rather than a brush for the past decade, weaving the canvas himself in a meditative and intensely rhythmic process. All the idiosyncrasies and eventual missteps that inevitably come up, stand as tracks of the artist’s presence.

Ethan Cook (b. 1983, Texas) lives and works in Brooklyn. Solo exhibitions include Loyal, Stockholm), Nino Mier Gallery (LA), T293 (Rome), Half Gallery (NY), Andersen’s (CPH), Philipp Zollinger (Zurich), Gana Art (Seoul), Patrick De Brock Gallery (Knokke). Group exhibitions include National Museum of Capodimonte (Naples), Fondazione 107 (Torino), Fondazione Querini Stampalia (Venice).
