About Stanley Whitney
Stanley Whitney was born in 1946 in Philadelphia (US). He currently lives and works in New York City (US) and Parma (Italy).
Stanley Whitney’s work is a vibrant statement for the significance of abstraction in contemporary art. His deliberate rejection of geometric accuracy and his energetic, joyful brushstroke provide for a highly unique style. Coinciding with Whitney’s current documenta-participation, BORCH Editions will present one of his recent large-scale monotypes. Monotypes are unique works, created on a featureless plate. In contrast to other printing techniques, the artist does not leave permanent marks on the plate but simply paints on its surface. The plate thus serves as a mere vehicle to transfer the artist’s painting onto paper.
Stanley Whitney is represented by Niels Borch Jensen Gallery & Editions.
