About Per Kirkeby
Per Kirkeby (b. 1938 and d. 2018 in Copenhagen, Denmark)
Per Kirkeby grew to be one of the most acclaimed Danish artists. He was part of the experimental art school “Eks-skolen” in the 60s, working as a painter, sculptor, writer and graphic artist, which he pursued ever since. Per Kirkeby’s brick sculptures has since 1966-2017 emerged very distinctly as a body of work with its own language and logic.
Recent exhibitions dedicated to Kirkeby’s brick sculptures is SCULPTURES EN BRIQUE (1966-2016), Beaux-Arts de Paris, 2017 ,“Per Kirkeby & Lawrence Wiener”, Galleri Susanne Ottesen, 2016 and “Maskiner for Lys og Skygge” currently on view at Museum Jorn, Silkeborg showing an impressive presentation of 18 of Kirkeby’s most significant brick works.
A three-volume oeuvre catalogue focusing to Kirkeby’s brick sculptures are to be published later this year.
