Ellen Hyllemose (DK)
Working between painting and sculpture, Ellen Hyllemose’s practice focuses on the relationship between nature and the landscape. Concerned not with dramatic or picturesque landscapes, but rather the landscapes of everyday life and her own childhood, Hyllemose’s work often engages with farmed fields, urban landscapes and even the landscapes found inside our homes. Her materials are not precious but rather the artist favours low-cost materials that can be found everywhere, such as MDF, chipboard, lycra and sewing thread. Showing particular attention to the things that surround us, Hyllemose points towards objects that are neglected or under-appreciated. The tension between painting and sculpture adds a special kind of uncertainty to Ellen Hyllemose’s works, whilst the lycra coverings she employs often hint at something hidden, or waiting to be explored.
Ellen Hyllemose (b. 1968, Møn; DK) was educated at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and lives and works in Copenhagen. Ellen Hyllemose is represented in public collections such as SMK – the National Gallery of Denmark (Copenhagen; DK), Esbjerg Museum of Art (Esbjerg; DK), Holstebro Museum of Art (Holstebro; DK), and has completed several public commissions. Recent exhibitions include Møstings Hus Kunsthal (Frederiksberg; DK), FOLD Gallery (London; UK) and SPECTA (Copenhagen; DK).
