About Hildur Bjarnadóttir
Hildur Bjarnadóttir´s oevre concentrates on two principal themes: she explores the nature of textiles and paintings by reconstructing the painters’ canvas through weaving, and deals with site specific properties of plant colour and their connection to a place or a person. Central to her work is the idea that materials are laden with significance and have the potential to portray information; Hildur endeavors to fine tune the materials’ language. In her artistic research she works with individual pieces and installations to explore such subjects as hierarchy, gender, vegetation, microhistory, and colour and to raise questions concerning value, material, technique and social history. She studies her themes primarily through handcrafts but also uses other mediums, namely drawing, film, watercolors and painting.
Hildur Bjarnadóttir is represented by Hverfisgalleri.
